Town winger looks forward to facing Dale
Shrewsbury Town winger Junior Brown admits that results are more important that personal performances as Town look ahead to taking on Rochdale.Brown scored against Bolton on Boxing Day, but he admitted that it meant very little as Town were unable to take home a point despite putting in a decent performance.
“It was nice to go and score there but it was disappointing to go away getting beat”, Junior told ShrewsWeb.
“Overall I think we put in a good performance and with a little bit of luck and few decisions we would have come away with a point.
“If you look back over the course of the season so far it’s been a reoccurring theme with decisions not always going for us, but we have to dig in and get on with it and hopefully that luck will turn and we will start getting decisions that go for us.”
Just 4 days after facing Bolton, Town travel to 4th placed Rochdale, but despite their league positions Junior believes the team have nothing to fear.
“It’s going to be a tough test but I don’t think we have anything to fear”, said Junior.
“Over the past few games we’ve put in some good performances and it’s an opportunity to go up against one of the supposedly better sides in the league.
“We will go up against them and show them we are not a push over and we are doing a disservice to ourselves with our current position.
“It’s nice for the fans who get to go and watch us against the sides in the upper echelons of the league and if we can go there and put on a good performance it will help our fans and give them that little nudge to say that we are not down and out and that we are fighting.”
Brown has had the most playing time for Town so far this season, but he is putting the team before any personal accolades.
“The main thing for me is performing well and getting the results that we require at the minute”, Junior said.
“We’ve been in a sticky situation for the most part of the season, but I think we’ve turned a corner, performances have improved with the new gaffer coming in and that galvanised us and we’ve shown improvements and hopefully that will continue.
“I’ve not had any injuries so far, so it’s been nice to be on the pitch as much as possible. You want to play week in week out and fortunately for me I’ve done well enough, I’ve kept myself fit enough and played near enough every game and it’s something I want to continue to do.”
Brown has played in a number of positions down the left hand side so far this season, but he admits that he is happy to play wherever as long as the team are doing well.
“If I’m being honest I don’t really mind where I play”, said Brown.
“All through my career I have played down the left hand side so it’s nothing new to me, but being a bit further up the pitch gives you a chance to express yourself and sometimes be a bit more adventurous.
“Being a wide player I enjoy that one v one battle that you get in the majority of games and you know that if you can repeatedly get crosses in the box you have done your job and you are doing the right things. So, for me being further up the pitch gives me the opportunity to do that.”
