Young Striker hoping to make his mark at Town
Shrewsbury Town announced their fourth signing of the transfer window earlier today by signing 18 year old striker Tyler Roberts on loan until the end of the season.Tyler is a Wales Under-19 international and has represented his parent club West Brom in the Premier League.
He was delighted to join Town and believes he has the attributes needed to play in League One.
“I think when the opportunity came to come here and the manager said that he wanted me for the team it was a great feeling and I’m happy to be here”, Tyler told ShrewsWeb.
“It was an easy decision. The way the gaffer’s gone on about how he wants the team to play and what kind of style he plays it was definitely an easy decision.
“I like to come to feet and get on the ball. I’m quite skilful, but I have the pace to get in behind as well.
“It’s physically demanding coming from under 23’s football and going into the men’s game. It’s a lot more physical and the tempo is quicker, but I’m not too bad with the physical side of things.”
The West Bromwich Albion youngster has already enjoyed spell at this level with Oxford United and has been tasked with making his mark in League One.
“They want me to stamp my mark on League One a bit more and push myself into the team, get more goals and help the club”, Roberts said.
“I want to get into the team a little bit more than I did at Oxford. I got a few starts in the cup competitions and that was a great experience. Playing in League One was also a massive help and I think it’s boosted my career massively.
“I’ve gone back to West Brom and I feel a lot sharper, a lot quicker, so I think I’m definitely ready for more League One football.”
Roberts was mainly used as a substitute by Oxford, but he believes he has the capability to score goals at this level.
“I want to force myself into the team”, said Tyler.
“I know that’s not going to be easy because of the standard of players we’ve got here, but I also want to get some more goals.
“It felt good to be training today. All the lads were good, they welcomed me in and I feel like I can settle quickly here. I hope I can score goals for Shrewsbury.”
