James Collins: "It's great to be back here"

20 June 2014

Collo glad to be back at the club that gave him his chance

James Collins has paid his first visit to the Greenhous Meadow since sealing an exciting return to Shrewsbury Town from Hibernian.

The striker, back from holiday, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the option of an extra 12 months and he's clearly happy to be back in familiar surroundings.

He said: "It's great to be back here. Coming back up the M54 was strange but it was something I was really looking forward to so it's really nice to be back.

"This was the club that gave me the chance to play league football and it was a club I was successful with as well so it will always be a club close to my heart."

Collo quickly hit it off with manager Micky Mellon and said he was impressed with the quality of the signings Town have brought in this summer.

He added: "I see we're the busiest side in the Football League at the moment and the acquisitions we're bringing in look really good so hopefully we can push on and get a good start.

"As soon as I spoke to the chairman there was no messing about. He wants to go straight back up so that's exactly what's in my mind as well.

"I want to go straight back up and back into League One where this club belongs."

The striker will meet his new team mates - and a few familiar faces from his first spell - when the Town squad report back for the start of pre-season training at the end of next week.
