James Collins looking forward to linking up with Scott Vernon again
James Collins is looking forward to meeting up with his new Shrewsbury Town team mates and having the chance to play alongside fellow new recruit Scott Vernon.
Collo, starting a second spell at the Greenhous Meadow, played against the 30-year-old in the Scottish Premier League last season when Hibernian took on Aberdeen and he has a healthy respect for the striker.
"I know Scott," he said. "He was at Aberdeen for a few years and he was even there when I went up there as a kid.
"I don't know him personally too well but I know a lot about him football wise and he will be a great asset to the side."
Manager Micky Mellon said he was pleased to have brought in two strikers who were playing in Scotland's top division last season.
"They know each other," he said. "As soon as we signed Scott, James contacted Jacko and gave him a glowing reference, saying what a good player we've got.
"He'll be pleased that we've got another striking option to play with up front. We're delighted to get him on board."
Micky added he was looking forward to working with a man who has spent the last four years at Aberdeen.
He said: "Scott was definitely a player that we identified very early that I believed would come in and have the great qualities that will be needed to deliver the type of football that I want to play here.
"He can play up front on his own, he can play up front in a front two, he can drop off and be a No 10, but he's got such clever movement, great technique, and he's also got a goalscoring record.
"He's come from a very good level of football and I'm just delighted we've got him on board. I'm sure he will be a fantastic acquisition for the football club."
