Wildig signs new Town contract

Aaron puts pen to paper on new Town deal

Aaron Wildig has become the first of the six Shrewsbury Town players offered a new deal by manager Graham Turner to put pen to paper.

Wildig, 21, was at the Greenhous Meadow this morning to sign a new contract and he's pleased to have his future resolved.

"In the lower leagues of football you're on year to year contracts and I didn't particularly think I was going to get a contract so obviously being offered one was pleasing," admitted Wildig.

"I've now signed it so I can go and enjoy the next month of the summer knowing I've got a contract next year.

"I didn't have the best season but I'm a young player and I'm not breaking the bank here to stay."

Wildig ended last season strongly, starting the last three matches against Colchester, Oldham and Portsmouth after a lengthy absence from the first team stage.

And the former Cardiff City midfielder is keen to really show what he's capable of next season.

"I think the gaffer still sees potential in me," he added. "I'm good in training and I need to take that into games now. I haven't shown my full potential in games so next year's a big season for me to go and do that, to take what I do in training and reserve games into first team games.

"I need to believe in myself more to go and do that."

As for the challenge ahead for Town next season in a strong looking League One, Wildig said: "There's some massive teams in there and I think we're going to look to kick on as a football club as well this year."

GT is still waiting to hear back from the five other players he has offered new contracts to with the manager hoping to hold on to the services of Tom Bradshaw, Connor Goldson, Jermaine Grandison, Jon Taylor and Ryan Woods.
