Micky Delighted After Win Over Bury

21 October 2014

Manager believes his side scored at good times

Manager Micky Mellon was left delighted by Shrewsbury Town's 5-0 battering of Bury at the Greenhous Meadow on Tuesday night.

A hat-trick from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and further goals from Connor Goldson and Jordan Clark gave Town another three Sky Bet League 2 points, this time against the Shakers who started the night second in the table.

"I think we’ve scored goals at very good times. Bury are a really good side and we’ve took chances when we had to so it was important we did that in a game I thought would be very tight," said Micky.

"There were some really good performances and we needed to be on the money tonight as we were playing a very good Bury side, and this is a blip for them so where not getting carried away.

"I am telling you now, any side that finished above Bury will win the league."

"Any sort of result was going to be massive for us.

"We got a terrific result against York, we had to get a result against Bury as we’d left ourselves a lot to do after failing to pick up enough points on the road, so we knew that we had to back up a terrific away performance on the weekend."

The Town boss was also left impressed by striker Akpa Akpro's hat-trick.

"(Jean-Louis) is capable of that and everyone says if he added goals to his game he’d be playing at the higher end of the championship," said Micky.

"The lads knew how big of a performance was needed, they knew we needed to back up that away win, and it was such a great performance and great victory."
