Jackson welcomes Fyvie arrival

Fraser impresses in first training session

Caretaker manager Mike Jackson is pleased to have added Fraser Fyvie to the Shrewsbury Town squad after signing the Scottish under-21 international on an initial month's loan from Wigan Athletic.

The midfielder, who started his career at Aberdeen, is available for Saturday's match at Swindon.

"It was something we discussed before the gaffer left," he said. "We were obviously looking to bring players in and I still wanted to go ahead with it.

"I had seen him playing against our reserves here and he's got good pedigree where he's come from. He deals with the ball well and he'll fit in nicely.

"With the likes of Aaron and Summers still not 100 per cent fit, I think we needed someone to come in at this moment in time.

"Roberto Martinez bought him from Aberdeen and he doesn't sign you if you can't deal with a football. He's shown that in training today.

"He can play in any of the three midfield positions, whether you want two sitters, one sitter, he can do that.

"We're trying to bring people in that are going to challenge what we've got here already. It's no secret we need some numbers in and that's what we're trying to do."

Mike added he had enjoyed his first day working with the squad since being appointed caretaker manager.

"It's been great," he said. "The last two days have been manic but today was good.

"I had a meeting with the lads this morning, told them what I expected of them, what they could expect from me and, on the football side of it, trying to create a style of play which I don't think we've really had.

"They're the three things I've concentrated on this morning and it's been good to get out on the grass. I really enjoyed it."
