Danny Coyne joins Town staff

New goalkeeping coach joins up

Graham Turner has added former Wales international Danny Coyne to his coaching staff as Shrewsbury Town's new goalkeeping coach.

Coyne, 39, capped 16 times at full international level, replaces Gavin Ward following his recent move to Championship club Nottingham Forest.

He will also be registered as a player just like Ward was last season.

"I would like to welcome Danny onto the staff," said GT. "Danny is just reaching the end of his playing career although he will be registered as a player.

"I would be happy to include him in the team if anything happened to either Chris Weale or Joe Anyon knowing he is a very experienced and capable goalkeeper.

"The main part of his duties here will be working with the keepers on the training ground.

"Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele helped us out with a few sessions and he will come in occasionally to work with us.

"Danny will set out the work schedule for our two pro keepers and four young keepers.

"Having watched him put on sessions, I'm more than satisfied that he will provide the keepers with the level of work and expertise that they require."

Coyne, who was born in Prestatyn, spent last season with Sheffield United having previously played for Tranmere Rovers, Grimsby Town, Burnley and Middlesbrough.
