Midfielder Paul Parry hopes Saturday's last gasp victory over Bradford City can be the springboard for Shrewsbury Town to climb out of the League One relegation zone.

Ahead of Tuesday's vital clash at Carlisle United, the former Welsh international says Shaun Miller's 94th minute clincher should be the perfect confidence booster as Mike Jackson's side chase back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

While Town were celebrating a first home win since November, the Blue's were thrashed four-one at Notts County, a result which leaves them fourth bottom, just one point and one place above Shrewsbury.

"They've had a bad result so we need to capitalise on that," said Parry. "Hopefully they'll feel a bit sorry for themselves, and we can get the three points. We've got a lot of teams around us still to play and if we can get a couple more wins we'll drag other teams above us into the equation. There are still plenty of points to play for and hopefully the Bradford result will be a springboard for us.

"The win has got to be a launchpad for us with eight games to go. We've had a lot of games in a short period of time with another to come on Tuesday  - we'll start focusing on that now and if we can take three points at Carlisle, it would be a good return from these two games."

It was also a much needed home win for Shrewsbury, who tasted victory at the Greenhous Meadow for the first time since November - a run stretching back 119 days when former loanee Adam Reach's goal was enough to beat Notts County. 

"It's a bit of a relief," admitted Parry. "It's been a while since we won at home, it's nice to get a win for the fans, they've supported us for the last few months and not left with a lot of joy."

Parry says the win showed the "character" within the squad after they had to come from behind to take the points. Trailing one-nil with 11 minutes to play when Andrew Davies gave Bradford the lead, Jon Taylor then notched his seventh of the season to equalise 60 seconds later, before substitute Miller acrobatically hooked the winner, 24 hours after signing on loan from Sheffield United until the end of the season. 

"We started well in the first half, took the game to them but maybe lacked a bit of quality in the final third," said Parry. "I think it shows there's a lot of character in the squad. We came from behind to win at Notts County and now against Bradford. The fitness is there, the character is there, so we need to kick on for the remaining fixtures."

For Miller it was a dream debut, after Parry's ball in from the left created the opportunity.

"It was a great finish and he couldn't have timed it any better," he said. "Shaun is still a young lad, still learning, and hopefully he'll score some goals. We know he can do that and he can play a big part for us."

There was also a welcome return for midfielder Arran Wildig after a long injury lay-off and Parry says his timely introduction could prove vital for the run-in.

"He started the season really well for us and it's a big boost to have him back," he said. "He's got a lot of quality, he can pick a pass for us, and create chances to score goals."
