Supporters urged to donate at Pompey game

Shrewsbury Town Football Club has once again answered the call to support our Armed Forces Community with the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Shropshire at our game today against Portsmouth.

With our community’s support we will help our military community Live On while also honouring the memory of the Fallen.

In 2014, over 45 million poppies will be distributed by over 350,00 collectors.

Every poppy helps raise the £1.6 million needed by the Legion each week to deliver direct, practical care and support for those in need.

When you donate to the Poppy Appeal you help bereaved families to Live On, wounded Service men and women to Live On, younger veterans seeking employment and housing to Live On, and older veterans needing age-related care to Live On.

This adds up to an annual spend of over £83m.

The Legion places great emphasis in supporting, not only present and past members of the British Armed Forces, but also their families.

Families are at the heart of the 2014 Poppy Appeal and we are proud to be able to promote and support this fantastic cause.

The Poppy Appeals guests today are some of our local heroes and community leaders who assure our military community is supported appropriately.

The poppy is a powerful symbol which is worn to commemorate the sacrifices of our Armed Forces and to show support to those still serving today and their loved ones.

We would urge all supporters and people of Shropshire to make a donation and wear their poppy with pride to show support for our Armed Forces and their families who are the focus of the 2014 Poppy Appeal.
