Micky: We Go To Win The Game

25 August 2014

No fear for Leicester trip, insists Town boss

Manager Micky Mellon insists Shrewsbury Town will show no fear at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night when they face Premier League side Leicester City in the Second Round of the Capital One Cup.

Town were drawn to face the Foxes after knocking Championship club Blackpool out of the competition in the First Round at the Greenhous Meadow.

Leicester are three-times winners of the League Cup and enter Round 2 being a team from the top flight, but Micky is aiming for the right result against Nigel Pearson's side in the midweek clash.

"We're going there with no fear and to try and get a result," said Micky.

"We'll express ourselves and if we get it right we'll be a massive threat to Leicester.

"It's a fantastic game for the Football Club. You can't let these moments pass you by and not want to go and take part in them.

"It's a great opportunity for us to goe toe to toe with a Premier League football club in a Premier League arena.

"What more could you want on a Tuesday night underneath the floodlights?

"We've got to embrace and enjoy the occasion, and make sure we take part in it."

"I've played against Nigel Pearson teams over the years. They're always well-organised and Nigel is obviously a very experienced manager.

"They'll be wanting to win the game like they were playing Manchester United."

Micky believes the occasion will be an important experience for the young players within the Town squad.

"We have a lot of young players around their late teens and early 20s which bodes well for the future," he said.

"It's massive for their development to get in these situations, learn and get experiences from it."
