First team squad and staff visit soccer school
Children taking part in the Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust summer soccer schools received a surprise visit from the entire first team and management team on Thursday.Players spent time signing autographs and answering questions from the children, and manager Mickey Mellon and assistant Michael Jackson even took part in a crossbar challenge which Mickey won!
Over 60 children have taken part in the soccer school this week, with the course including sessions based on fun and enjoyment, consisting of technical work, skills challenges and small-sided games.
This week the children have also enjoyed a tour of the Greenhous Meadow stadium and watched the first team players train.
Manager Mickey Mellon said: "These are our next generation of fans. We want them to love the football club like their aunties, uncles, mums and dads.
"They're local kids, we have to make sure we do all we can to put on a product here both on and off the pitch, like the guys are doing at the minute with the coaching.
"We want them to know that Shrewsbury's their local football club, it's something I'm passion about.
"If you can get them hooked early and get that love of the football club into them then it's a positive for the future."
Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust are running the following courses for the remainder of the school holiday with limited space left:
28th-31st July: Wem Cricket Club - 9am-3pm
4th-7th August: Press Cricket & Recreation Ground - 9am-3pm
4th-8th August: Shrewsbury Town Football Club - 9am-3pm
11th-12th August: Ellesmere Primary School - 9am-3pm
11th-15th August: Shrewsbury Town Football Club - 9am-3pm
11th-15th August: Wem Cricket Club - 9am-3pm
18th-20th August: Sundorne School and Sports College - 9am-3pm
26th-29th August: Shrewsbury Town Football Club - 9am-3pm
