Wroe Returns to Town

25 October 2013

Midfielder Nicky Wroe links up on a month’s loan

Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of Nicky Wroe on a month’s loan from Preston North End.

Wroe was part of the Town side that secured promotion to League One in 2011/12 having joined the Club in the previous season’s January transfer window.

After 18 months at the Greenhous Meadow, he opted to join the Lilywhites in the 2012 close season and made a huge impression at Deepdale in last year’s League One campaign under Graham Westley, notching eight league goals in 35 appearances.

But a change of manager at North End has seen Wroe make just one league start this season, paving the way for Town manager Graham Turner to bring him back to Shropshire.

“We’re pleased to welcome Nicky back to the club,” said Turner.

“Under a change of manager at Preston, it hasn’t quite worked out for him, so after an enquiry we’ve agreed a deal for him for a month.

“He comes in to reinforce our options in midfield. We’ve had the dilemma with Luke Summerfield who’s been struggling with injury and we don’t want to aggravate that injury.

“We know what Nicky can do. He’s a powerful midfield player who can get inside the opposition box and score goals. He’s a senior pro and he knows what the games about, he’s got enough physical presence and know how to do well in this league.”
