Graham Turner's thoughts after the 1-0 defeat at Brentford

Town faced another tough looking away trip when they made the trip South to take on Brentford.  It looked like it would be an uphill task with the Bees' taking an early lead but after that Town dug in.

It was a better second half performance from Town who created a number of good openings in front of the Brentford game.

In the end it was much a case of de ja vue with Town putting in a performance which they probably should have come away with a point.

After the game manager Graham Turner spoke to the press to give his thoughts on the game:”I thought we were in our shell a little in the first half, certainly for the first 35 minutes before we started to show a little more.

“In the second half we had a right good go of it but our problem obviously is scoring goals.

“The disappointment for me is that there were a number of crosses going into the box but there was no one there or we lacked the movement.

“You need to get on the move, you look at their goal and the lads just got across the front and the lads side footed it in.

“Again it's a game where there haven't been many clear cut chances for the opposition, we've blocked shots and defended well but once again our problems are at the other end.”

There was only the one goal between the teams and GT thought that his side deserved a point from the game:”We had a couple of good chances late in the second half, there was the one from Jon Taylor where he was determined to get the ball onto his right foot when a left footed shot probably would have been the better option.

“I feel about 55 minutes of the game were an acceptable performance and during that time I'm disappointed we didn't get anything out of the game.”

Loanee Nicky Wroe made his first start for Town since the win over Dagenham that saw Town clinch promotion to League 1.  He put in a good shift in his first 90 minutes of the season and GT thinks he will be a good addition to the squad:”He knows what the game is about and is an experienced midfielder and the longer the game went on the better I felt he got.

“He had to find his feet getting used to our passing game with Aaron alongside him and with Jon Taylor out wide.”

The defeat sees Town drop to 18th place in the table and it is a big concern for the manager:”It is a massive concern obviously and the table doesn't make pleasant reading.

“We've been beaten by more than one goal only once in the league this season and been in contention in every other game.

“We know that we have to start picking up points or else the table will continue to look depressing as it is tonight.”

Next week will see Town focus on how to improve their recent run of results with hard work on and off the training pitch:”There are a number of options that you can look at but first and foremost you want the players to maintain the belief in the way we play.

“Secondly you have to work on the training ground with the movement and there is always the option of other players.

“You can't keep accumulating players and I believe the strikers that we have here are good enough, what we need to do is continue to believe and work on the training ground.”
