Midfielder signs one-year deal at the Greenhous Meadow
Shrewsbury Town can confirm the signing of midfielder Anthony Griffith on a one-year deal.The former Doncaster Rovers, Leyton Orient and most recently Port Vale man put pen to paper on a deal at the Greenhous Meadow on Wednesday
“This is probably one of the biggest Clubs in the league for me,” said Griffith.
“I feel blessed to still be given the opportunity to play football. I’ve got a big challenge ahead of me but I’m looking forward to it.
“My target is to play, get promoted and see where we are next year.
“I went to watch the game against Leicester and I was stunned to be honest, it was amazing.”
The 27-year-old, who made 45 appearances in all competitions for League One side Port Vale last season, has been back in training over pre-season following a hip operation.
He said: “At the end of the season, I knew I needed an operation and couldn’t see anybody getting in contact, but Mike Jackson got in touch and told me to come down and see the physio.
“Jermaine (Grandison) had a similar injury to me but he’s back playing now. It’s amazing because his was quite severe compared to mine.
“I’m just glad to be back on my feet really, and I’m thriving at the chance to get going again. I’ve got a lot of paying back to do to Micky Mellon and Mike Jackson as well, because they’ve shown a lot of faith in me.
“I’ve been doing a lot of training behind the scenes. I’ve been at Port Vale and done a lot of fitness work to get me back to where I need to be.
“It’s very difficult when you’ve not had a full pre-season, and this is my first year without a full pre-season.
“To show my full potential I need to be the fittest I can. I’m a qualified fitness instructor so I’m okay to manage my weight.
“Nothing can compare to match fitness, that’s the most important thing.”
The Huddersfield-born man, who has played for Montserrat at international level, knows all about Town having played against the Club in the past.
“I’ve always known that Shrewsbury have had good players, and the one big plus for me coming here is the manager.
“His man management skills are fantastic, and from what I saw against Leicester, the Club is only going in one direction, and it’s the right direction for me.
“Micky does things in the right way and speaks to people in the right manner which is fantastic.
“Throughout my football career, I’ve had that with managers that I’m lucky with.
“It was always fantastic to play against Shrewsbury. The games were always entertaining.
“I’ve both won and lost to Shrewsbury both at home and away before, but that’s all in the past now.
“I want to get my head down here and help us to get over the line.”
