He then played professionally for Calgary Storm in the American/Canadian League.

On returning to his native Merseyside, he joined Liverpool, initially working as a part-time Community/Academy coach which eventually led to a full time role at Anfield working with different age groups of talented young players.

Ian then spent three years as head of analysis for the Liverpool Academy working with all age groups from under-nine up to under-21.

He spent nearly 10 years in different roles working within the Academy at Anfield before spending last season in Malta.

Manager Micky Mellon has stressed the importance of bringing in the right man for this key position and the club are pleased to have appointed Ian.
