Town boss turns his attention to Hatters test
Manager Micky Mellon is remaining grounded ahead of Shrewsbury Town’s game against Luton Town on Saturday – despite knocking Leicester City out of the Capital One Cup in midweek.The Shrews earned their first-ever win at a Premier League stadium by beating the Foxes on Tuesday night to reach the last 32 of the League Cup.
It also means Town have kept up their unbeaten start to the season, but next they face a Luton side who were promoted as champions of the Conference last season.
And Micky is keeping his feet on the ground in anticipation of another tough test, as the Club look to return to winning ways in the League Two.
“Because of the strength of the squad I think that, if you do get a bit carried away, you’ll lose your place,” said Micky.
“That in itself will go some way to making sure we stay grounded.
“The work we have done is fantastic, but there’s a long way to go so we have to keep putting in the work like we have done.”
The Hatters, managed by John Still, have made a mixed start to their League Two campaign, but four of the five points they have accumulated have come away from home.
And Micky is wary that their winning mentality from the 2013/14 season will make them difficult opposition at the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.
“They’re a team with momentum and a team used to winning games,” he said.
“That’s a fantastic thing to have in your armoury.
“They know how to win games and they have experienced how to win games.
“We know the threats that they possess, but we believe we’ve got enough within our group to frighten them and gain our own moments in the game.
“We’re looking forward to it. It will be a good game and there should be a cracking crowd here.
“We’ve got to be somewhere within and around our best in order to keep us moving forward.”
