Micky Looking Forward To Kiddy Test

28 July 2014

Trip to Kidderminster gives Town the chance to continue good pre-season

Town will make the short trip down to Aggborough on Tuesday night to take on Conference side Kidderminster Harriers.

It will be Town’s first away game of the pre-season after taking on Chesterfield, WBA, Watford and Kilmarnock at the Greenhous Meadow.

Saturday’s game against SPL side Kilmarnock gave Town a good workout but the performance should have seen the home side at least find the back of the visitors net.

“We would be disappointed not to have taken three or four of the chances in the game and if you take them things are different”, said Micky Mellon.

“The closing down was terrific considering the conditions, we passed the ball really well at time and we can see the progression in the group.”

The focus now moves onto Kidderminster and the game will be a difference test for Micky Mellon’s side and on that the Town manager is looking forward to.

“It will be a really tough game but it’s always a lovely pitch at Aggborough is lovely this time of the season”, added Micky.

“I’m really looking forward to it and it will be a useful game for the players to get more match minutes under their belts and continue to increase their fitness.”

“We’ve always said we don’t have a first team but a squad of first team players, regardless of who plays we will expect to play in a certain way.”

On Saturday Liam Lawrence was rested due to slight tweak and striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro left the action early in the first half with a groin problem.  Lawrence is back in the squad for Aggborough but Akpa Akpro and midfielder James Wesolowski won’t be risked:”Jean-Louis won’t be involved, James Wesolowski won’t be involved, Jean-Louis has tweaked his groin so if he plays he could make it worse so we are going to be cautious.

“It’s naive to risk anyone at this time, Wesolowski has got a bit of a stiff quad so he’s being rested to make sure he is in contention for that first game of the season.

“Liam Lawrence will play, and there are others who will play to get some time under their belts.

“He had a stiff quad and you don’t want to risk pulling a quad at this time so we rested him and he’s back in for Tuesday.”
