Micky Has His Own Beer!

Local Charles Darwin pub to serve Micky Mellons Barmy Army

Manager Micky Mellon visited the local Charles Darwin pub on Friday afternoon for a first taste of the new beer named after him.

The pub’s landlord Rob Jones decided to name the new drink, which is 4.2% in abbreviation, as Micky Mellons Barmy Army and hopes to see fans queueing up for a pint ahead of the game against Luton Town on Saturday.

Rob said: “I thought it would be good to name the beer after Micky and call it the barmy army because that’s what all the Town fans are singing at the moment.

“I wanted to do something with Shrewsbury Town because we’re busy with them on matchdays.

“The fans love it and hopefully, against Luton, they will get to know it for the first time.

“It’s a light beer and it’s refreshing so we should do alright hopefully.”

Micky thoroughly enjoyed the taste of his pint and felt the idea epitomised the community’s love for Shrewsbury Town.

Micky said: “It’s fantastic and goes a long way towards how I’ve felt that I’ve been welcomed into the Town and the Football Club.

“It shows you how much the community love the Football Club, that’s what I keep saying to the players all the time.

“It’s important that they realise the effect they have on the local community when they do well.

“I hope the beer sells very well.”
