Liam on the importance of two away pre-season games ahead of Wimbledon
Liam Lawrence is looking forward to getting out on the pitch this evening after sitting out Saturday’s draw with SPL side Kilmarnock.Liam had a slight thigh strain and it was decided that he would be rested over the weekend but has returned to training ahead of this evening’s trip to Aggborough.
Pre-season has been going well for the ex Republic of Ireland international but after a hard week of training last week the weekend’s rest has done him good.
“It was just a precaution to miss out on Saturday’s game, I felt my thigh a little on Wednesday/Thursday so we decided to have a couple of days downtime”, revealed Liam.
“I trained on Monday and it was fine so I’m good to go against Kidderminster this evening.
“It’s just about being careful as we are so close to the season starting, I’ve done everything over the pre-season and worked hard so no one wants to have a setback at this stage.”
Up till Saturday Liam had been involved in all the pre-season games and training since joining at the start of July. He is really enjoying the new surroundings and the challenge ahead to help Town fight back.
“I’ve enjoyed the games here at the Greenhous Meadow with the new pitch and the new fans and it’s a lovely ground”, he added.
“I’m starting to get my form I think and in the recent games have started to find my feet and my touch.”
After four home pre-season games at the Greenhous Meadow Town travel to Kidderminster this evening for the first away game. It will be a good test and Liam is hoping that the Town fans will travel in numbers to Aggborough:”I think it’s important to go away from home as our first league game is away to Wimbledon so we need that test.
“We’ve played some good stuff at the Greenhous Meadow so far and now the test is to continue that on the road.
“I’ve had many battles with Kidderminster over the years so it won’t be anything new to me.
“Hopefully it will be a good game and a few supporters will make the trip and enjoy what they see.”
On Saturday Mark Ellis spoke about the togetherness in the new look Town squad and Liam agrees. There is a good feeling amongst the squad and Liam hopes the fans can see that in their play out on the pitch:”We’ve gelled so quickly and there is such a good feel about the place and you can see that when we are playing.
“We’ve got a good togetherness and that will be important over the season.
“It doesn’t matter what the age groups are there are no cliques here, everyone is just focused on the task ahead of winning the first games of the season and getting off to a good start.”
