Defender Joins On Loan

Lee Collins joins on loan from Championship side Barnsley

Graham Turner has acted quickly to bolster his defence following the news that Joe Jacobson will be missing for between four to six weeks after suffering an ankle injury in training by bringing in Lee Collins on an initial month’s loan.

Telford-born Collins, 24, is a versatile defender who started his career with Wolves before joining Hereford and then Port Vale on loan.

He went on to play over 150 games for Vale after making his move to the Potteries permanent before joining Championship club Barnsley.

His arrival gives Town another experienced player in defence ahead of Saturday’s important game against Paolo Di Canio's high flying Swindon Town.

Collins joined up with his new team mates for the first time ahead of training this morning and the Town manager is pleased to have him on board.

"With the injury to Joe Jacobson, I felt we needed another experienced defender to join the squad," he said.

“Lee is still young at 24 years of age but has a lot of league experience. He's a versatile player and a very good defender.

“I’ve worked with him before when he played 16 games for Hereford in the season we got the club promoted.

“This news doesn’t stop the search for other players to add to the squad and we are disappointed that we haven’t been able to bring in additional faces before the Swindon game.”
