Town made the long trip up to Morecambe looking to bounce back from last week’s narrow defeat against Walsall.
The youngsters put in a great performance and really took the game to Morecambe and for most of the first half there was only one team in it.
Town’s first goal came from Sam Molyneux but there were a number of chances throughout the team to add to the lead.
In the second half Morecambe came out with more purpose and made it a much tougher test for Town. The visitors did have other chances to add to the lead but in the end they saw the game out for a confidence boosting victory.
After the game head of youth coaching Bernard McNally was very pleased with his team’s performance:”It was a great result, when we got their the pitch didn’t look too clever but as I keep saying even if we are playing on pebble beach we’ll still try and play football.
“In the first half the performance was absolutely sensational, we blew them away and the only disappointment was that it was only 1-0 at half-time, but it was a resounding 1-0 as we could easily have had two or three more goals.
“Second half Morecambe dug in and I guess they had a bit of a rollicking as they came out and got right in our faces, but the good thing for us was that we battled and did the other side of the game where you have to roll your sleeves up, battle and get your tackles in.
“We had a couple of guilt edge chances that we should have buried and we should have easily won the game 3-0 or 4-0 but sometimes it’s important to see the game out and get a confidence boosting win.
“It’s good to see that we are starting to edge ourselves forward and starting to boss games on the possession side.”
