Young defender in until end of the season

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has signed young central defender Yado Mambo on loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.
Yado has emerged from the youth ranks at Charlton and has previously enjoyed loan spells in the Conference with Eastbourne and Ebbsfleet.

This season he has stepped up a level by spending the first half of this season on loan at League 2 club AFC Wimbledon, for whom he's made 13 appearances, scoring once.

The paperwork has been completed and sent to the Football League, and should be confirmed when the loan window opens in the morning. If all is okay,  Yado will be available for the New Year's Day trip to Coventry City.

"We’ve added a young central defender Yado Mambo on loan from Charlton to our squad for the rest of the season," confirmed Graham.

“He a big strong central defender who has had experience in the Conference and has spent the first half of the season on loan at AFC Wimbledon and Charlton were keen to move him up a grade.

“He might need a little bit of time to settle down with him being a young player but he is a lively character and will fit in with the rest.

“What you want is to hear that a player wants to come to us. Yado was enthusiastic about coming and wanting to impress us.”

Yado linked up with his new Shrewsbury team mates for the first time ahead of training on Monday morning.

The 21-year-old Londoner is now looking forward to the new challenge ahead of him at the Greenhous Meadow.

"It’s been a bit of whirlwind but I’m happy to be here at a big club like Shrewsbury and hoping to get my chances in League 1," said Yado. “Hopefully I can come here and show the fans and players and gaffer what I can do and help the club to move up the table.”

“I’m a young player and I’ve come here to play football at League 1 level and hopefully get enough games under my belt to get my chance at Charlton or maybe sign here.”
Yado added: "I’ve had some experience already and played a number of games at League 2 and Conference level.

“It’s all about progression and hopefully I can continue that here at Shrewsbury and get some games in League 1.

“I’ve played a lot of games this season at AFC Wimbledon and it was a great club to play for."

Yado comes into the Town side to bolster the club's defensive options. He described himself as a no nonsense defender who also likes to play when the chance arises.

"I’m a no nonsense defender but I can play a little bit when we get the chance. I’m not that type that just likes to hoof it; I can play a little bit but also have no problems hitting it into Row Z if it’s needed.

“I like to talk a lot on the pitch and talk with the full backs and help to organise the midfield when needed.

“I just want to get down to the hard work and show the gaffer and coaches what I can do and then hopefully get that place in the team.”

Yado Mambo has been allocated squad number 23.
