E-Cigarettes banned from Meadow

31 October 2012

Reminder that use of E-Cigarettes not permitted at the GM

After a discussion between stewards and a supporter at Saturday's home match against Colchester United, Shrewsbury Town would like to politely remind remind all supporters that the use of electronic cigarettes at the Greenhous Meadow is not permitted.

A supporter using one was spoken to during the Colchester game and has since discussed the matter further with the club's stadium manager and safety officer Alan Roberts.

"It is club policy not to allow the use of E-cigarettes inside the stadium," said Alan. "I've since spoken to the West Stand supporter concerned who was happy with the explanation as to why they are banned. I thank the supporter for their understanding.

"Many other Premier League and Football League clubs adopt a similar policy in not allowing them.

"The reason why they're banned is that visually it looks like someone is smoking and, from a distance, it might suggest to other supporters that it is acceptable to smoke inside the Greenhous Meadow which, of course, is not the case."
