Town’s youngsters welcomed Walsall to the Sports Village looking to get back to winning ways after a couple of defeats.

Town gave a good account of themselves at times against a Walsall team which looked to be made up mostly of their older scholars.  Town as usual had a mix of all their age groups as well as a number of the Academy youngsters who will make the step up to the scholarship next year.

It took an excellent free-kick delivery from Walsall to break the deadlock and they added a second to give themselves a commanding lead.

Town grabbed a goal back after good work from Josh Ginnelly saw the Walsall keeper only able to parry the ball and U16 Ethan Jones was in the right place to slot

After the game Academy manager Steve Reece could see the positives to take from the game:“A real game of two halves again where we had all the possession on the first half but didn’t make our chances count.

“We send them out with a game plan and to be fair to the lads they stuck to it, Walsall must have had a dressing down at half-time as they came out looking a lot hungrier.

“It was good to see Ethan Jones on the scoresheet; he’s still an U16 and one of our scholars for next season so that will have done his confidence the world of good.”
