News broke this afternoon that popular winger Jon Taylor was leaving Town to join up with League 1 side Peterborough United on a three year deal.

It was a shock to the Town faithful who have been buoyed recently by the quality of signings that Micky Mellon has added to the new look squad.

Jon has been with Town since joining the youth team as a 15 year old following his release from Wigan.  The 21 year old has progressed through the ranks at Town making nearly 150 appearances since making his debut in January 2011.

ShrewsWeb grabbed a quick word with Jon once the move was complete and he started by revealing what a tough decision it had been:”It was a very hard decision, everyone knows how much I love Shrewsbury as they've done so much for me.

“I think it was the right time for me to move on now and to continue to develop as a player and continue to play at a higher level.

“In the end we have all sat down and spoken about it and in the end I think it's the correct decision for me.”

“I've been at the club since I was fifteen years old and have lived here for the last five or six years.

“The club is definitely a big part of my life and I'm sad to leave but like I said I think it's the right time.”

Jon was Town's longest serving player last term but he feels that it's now time to move on and continue his development as a player with a new challenge at Posh:”They are going to be fighting for the Championship and it will be great to be a part of that.

“It will be good to fighting and challenging to win trophies as that's what you like to do as a player.

“They also have a history of developing players and I want to continue to develop as a player and hopefully I will be able to do that.

“I'm going to be working hard before we go back but it's good to get it sorted now so I can be prepared for what I'm sure will be a tough pre-season.”

Shrewsbury Town will always have a big place in Jon's heart and he'll continue to look out for the club's results.  Knowing the club inside and out he believes the addition of Micky Mellon and the new players will see the club challenging for a quick return to League 1:”I'm sure that Shrewsbury will be fighting to get back to League 1 and with the new manager coming in and Jacko staying on they have a great chance of achieving that.

“With the signings that they've made recently I think they have a great chance and I'll be cheering them along.”
