Ryan frustrated after no points at Plymouth
Ryan Woods says Shrewsbury Town deserved more from their defeat at Plymouth on Saturday - and has backed his team-mates to turn fortunes around.
Town's one-nil defeat at Home Park was yet more away day frustration for Micky Mellon's men, but Woods says there were positives to come from a match where the home side sealed the points thanks to Reuben Reid's first half header.
"It was a very frustrating game," he said. "We've controlled it from the start but it was a little mistake that's cost us. I thought we were really good and deserved at least a point."
The goals have dried up in recent weeks on the road for Town, but the team continue to create chances and Woods says it's only a matter of time before Shrewsbury find their form up front.
"It's not happening for us in front of goal at the moment and we need that little bit of luck," he admitted.
"Maybe we need that first goal in away games. We will try to sort it out as soon as possible. Heads didn't drop which is a good thing. We know we're good enough to get back in games, not just for a draw, but for a win too."
Once again, Woods was impressive in the Shrewsbury midfield alongside Aussie battler James Wesolowski, and now he's set himself a target of scoring more goals.
"I'm enjoying it at the moment - me and Weso have got a very good partnership," said Woods. "Midfield is a position I wanted to play last season. This year, I'm hopefully really excelling and I want things to keep getting better and better.
"We need to be helping out with goals as much as possible and so do the defenders. We can't just rely on the strikers and wingers. That's definitely something we'll be aiming for."
The defeat in the South West saw Town drop to 12th in the League Two table but with three out of the next four games at the Greenhous Meadow, it gives Shrewsbury a great chance of lifting themselves back up with the chasing pack.
"People would be silly if they think we're not good enough to get promotion, never mind the play-offs," said Woods. "We're a very good team and I think we showed that against Plymouth. With a bit of luck, it'll come."
