GT on Bradshaw's Welsh call

6 September 2013

Tom Bradshaw's recall to the Wales under-21 squad is an example of how quickly fortunes can change in football, says Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner.

The striker had not been included in recent under-21 squads but was handed a late call up from the standby list earlier this week for Wales' UEFA under-21 qualifiers in San Marino on Friday and Moldova on Tuesday.

Bradshaw's selection came on the back of the 21-year-old scoring for Town in successive matches against Swindon, Rotherham and Coventry.

The manager said: "It's amazing how fortunes can change rapidly in football, isn't it?

"He started the season off with us, didn't get a goal, went out of the side and got back in and got his goal, and then suddenly it's three in three games and he's back into international duty.

"Such is football that fortunes change rapidly."

GT stressed that, while pleased for Bradshaw to have a chance to step back into the international arena, he admitted he would rather the player was still at the Greenhous Meadow training on a daily basis.

"I would rather him be here with us," he said. "He was only on standby and called into the squad very late, so on that we assume that he's not going to be in the starting line up.

"It could be that he'll have been away for quite a few days, done very little training and had very little game time.

"It might be detrimental to have been away and only sat on the bench plus all the travel so I would have preferred him here.

"It came as a shock when he got the call up. He was stripped ready for training on Monday morning when the call came, but he's naturally a fit lad, he's naturally got tremendous enthusiasm for the game, but the concern is just his lack of activity over eight or nine days."
