Knight-Percival: We Can Bounce Back

5 September 2014

Tuesday's captain confident ahead of Hartlepool trip

Defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival felt honoured to receive the captain’s armband at Preston North End on Tuesday night and believes Shrewsbury Town can bounce back from the loss.

Town travel to Hartlepool United in League Two on Saturday following their first defeat of the season in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Deepdale in midweek.

“It’s a massive honour to be given the captain’s armband and shows the manager has faith in me,” said Knight-Percival.

“It’s a great honour to be able to lead a team out.

“We’re happy with our start to the season even though the game on Tuesday night wasn’t one of our best performances.

“We pick ourselves up and go again with Saturday in mind.”

The 27-year-old believes that Pools, despite their poor start to the season seeing them win just one of their first five games, will be as difficult as any other side in the league.

“All the games in this league are going to be tough, regardless of who you’re playing,” he said.

“We know that if we don’t play our best then we’re more than likely going to get beat.

“It’s just a case of going there and focusing on the game and picking up three points.

“We’re always going to be confident we can win, regardless of who we’re going to play.”

And Knight-Percival is pleased with how the goalkeeper behind him, Jayson Leutwiler, has kept guard between the sticks so far this season.

“He’s been loud and very good playing in goal this season,” said Knight-Percival.

“We’ve kept clean sheets and he’s made a lot of big saves for us as well.

“It’s really good to have the understanding between our backline and our goalkeeper.”
