Tom and the players looking forward to Sheffield test
Tom Eaves was back on the scoresheet in dramatic fashion in Town’s home game against Brentford last Saturday. The last minute equaliser sent the players and fans into elation as Town went on to record their first point under caretaker manager Mike Jackson.
The goal comes as a relief for Eaves who despite marking his second spell with Town with a goal in his debut away to Stevenage he hadn’t added to his goal tally until Saturday:”The goal could have come a little earlier but in the end it came and I’m happy to have got a goal.
“Our organisation during the game was a lot better and we were so much harder to break down, and credit to Jacko as he’s changed the urgency of people and we look a lot hungrier.
“I never thought a goal wasn’t going to come and it was a matter of time, hopefully this will be the first of many.”
Since Mike Jackson took over as caretaker manager the squad has been lifted and there has been an improvement in performances against Swindon and Brentford:”I think we are just taking each day as it comes and training hard and intense during the day.
“We are always looking at preparation for the weekend’s games to go into them fully prepared.”
Thoughts now turn to the weekend’s trip to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. With Town currently in 21st place and the Blades in 23rd the game has an added importance for both sides. Tom revealed that the Town players are really looking forward to the trip with an added confidence:”It’s a big game on Saturday and they will have a lot of fans there so it’s a great time for a turning point in our season.
“I’m surprised to see them down in the bottom half but it is something that can happen to any team.
“They have had a few games come thick and fast with three games in a week, whether that will have an effect on them depends on their squad but it will be interesting.
“We are feeling confident after the two recent performances, I know we didn’t get a result at Swindon but the performance was good.”
This is Tom’s second loan spell with Town and during both times Mike Jackson has worked hard with Tom to improve his game. With Jacko now in charge as caretaker manager Tom and the players are backing him in his new role:”All the lads are rooting for him to keep the job, all of us know that he can do it and we want to do it for him.
“He’s always helping people and takes the time to work with individual people one on one at times.
“He has spent a lot of time with me over the last four or five weeks doing extra bits and pieces, as he does for a lot of the other lads.”
