Manager excited on eve of new season

Micky looking forward to getting the season underway

Manager Micky Mellon admits he's as excited as ever on the eve of a new Football League season kicking off.

Micky leads Shrewsbury Town to AFC Wimbledon on the opening day of the new season and says the feeling of anticipation is the same now as it's always been.

"I feel no different now than when I first came into football all those years ago," he said. "I've maybe got a wee bit more experience now and I know what to expect, but certainly the butterflies are there and I'm excited about it because I love football and I'm looking forward to all the challenges that are coming up."

He's now looking forward to the season getting under way against Wimbledon.

"Everybody starts when the gun goes off at 3pm on Saturday," said Micky. "We've just got to make sure that we come out of the traps quickly and we're good to go.

"If training's anything to go by we should be. We'll prepare properly and professionally like we should do and we'll get down to London and be ready for a tough game at Wimbledon."
