Skipper disappointed with Latics defeat
Abu Ogogo was frustrated after Shrewsbury were hammered 5-1 by Wigan Athletic but the midfielder believes the team can bounce back straight away:
“It was very tough having a man sent off and conceding a penalty. I thought they started off a bit better than us but then we got to grips with it and did well for an hour. Obviously then things didn’t go our way and they took control. It was just one of those days and nothing went for us out there with a man sent off and the penalty. We have been on a good run so hopefully we can now go and start another run. The manager has told us to keep our heads up and just move on.”
The 26-year-old felt the side could have defended better at times but after Town's first defeat in ten games the challenge is to get back to winning ways:
“The set piece was disappointing. Even with ten men you have to defend set pieces better than we did. Obviously you can’t do anything about the penalty but I think a bit of tiredness kicked in towards the end. It is very disappointing to concede the amount we did but one defeat out of ten games isn’t bad so we need to pick ourselves up for the next game.”
“Wigan are probably one of the worst teams to go down to ten men against because it would have been really tough had we still had eleven men so it is disappointing but we need to brush ourselves down and move on.”
The former Dagenham player is happy with his individual performance and also wearing the captain's armband for the game:
“It is nice to be talked about and I must be doing well for teams to focus on me but I just focus on what I do and do my job. On a personal note I feel I have done well on my first full season in League One and I have enjoyed it. I want to play every game to the end and I will give all I have got. I am very happy here and the boys have been doing well except for today.”
“It was an honour to have the armband just a shame about the result, I've had it before when Nat or one of the others has gone off but it was great to lead the team out.
“I was captain at Dagenham so know the responsibility that comes with it and hope I can help the younger lads.”
Ogogo feels the visit to Millwall will be a test for the team, especially with two key defenders out injured:
“They have picked up recently so it will be a difficult game, they are up there fighting for the play offs but we will go there with confidence and hopefully get a result. It isn’t an easy place to go but we have been on a good run except for today so we will be looking to put in a performance. I have played there before and lost so I owe them one for sure. It is a bit of a hostile place but we know what to expect.”
