Brown Our For Eight Weeks

MRI scan reveals knee damage

Junior Brown limped out of the action early in the first half of Saturday's game with Wigan and there was concern from the medical staff after the game.

He's had an MRI scan on his damaged knee and the medical staff have spoken to the consultant about the results and things don't look as bad as initially had been thought.

The scan confirmed there was damage to the knee but no damage the ACL and this means that recovery should be around the 8 week mark.

Town physio Chris Skitt spoke to ShrewsWeb to update us on the injury to Junior and the course of action.

“We were quite concerned after the game as it seemed to suggest that he had quite a significant injury”, said Chris.

“We assessed him after the game and were concerned so sent him for an MRI scan and we have had the results back and it is really good news.

“He has not done his cruciate ligament as we had first feared but has caused some damage to the area which won't need any further intervention.

“He has quite a significant injury on the inside ligament of his knee which will keep him out of action for around 8 weeks.

“The good news it won't keep him out long term in the way of months and months and he will be able to start the rehab soon.

“He will be in doing rehab with us and we will be looking at restoring his balance and getting strength into his knee and controlling the injury to reduce the chance of it happening again.”

The injury was picked up and following a burst of pace from Junior in Saturday's game.  There seemed to be little of a challenge involved and Skitty said it was just one of those things that can happen in football.

“We have spoken to Junior and he has probably done that movement a hundred times before and never had a problem.

“Following his poor touch he's jumped into a tackle to push the ball away and got his trailing leg stuck into the floor.  This has caused the injury and dropped his knee into a bad position and he's just been unlucky this time.”
