Defender admits Town could alter style
Defender Connor Goldson admits Shrewsbury Town might have to alter their style in order to get a positive result at Cambridge United on Saturday.Town travel to the Abbey Stadium this weekend for the Sky Bet League 2 fixture (3pm kick-off) looking to banish the memory of a 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup at Preston North End in their previous outing.
Micky Mellon felt his side played some superb football in the second half at Deepdale, although Goldson feels Town might have to adapt to the worsening winter conditions against the U's on Saturday.
"Everyone knows how we like to play and how the gaffer wants us to play," said Goldson.
"He wants us to pass the ball.
"In certain conditions, though, we might have to change and we might not be able to play pretty football all of the time."
Cambridge, who drew 2-2 with Mansfield Town in the FA Cup last weekend, sit tenth in the league table and are unbeaten in their last three home games.
"We've heard a lot about them and we've looked at them," said Goldson.
"We know that they're physical and athletic. They like to get around you and press you a lot, so we need to be good with the ball and pass through presses.
"We know that they haven't lost many games at home, so it's going to be a good test and hopefully we can go there and get all three points."
The Town defender hopes his side can get back to keeping a clean sheet against Richard Money's side.
"We want a clean sheet in every game we play, that's what a back four or a back five goes into the game thinking," said Goldson.
"It was disappointing not to keep a clean sheet at Preston but I thought that, on the whole, we played well.
"We have a lot of tough games coming up over Christmas so if we can stay in and around where we are now by the end of it then I'm sure we'll all be happy.
"The main thing now is pushing on again. We can't get complacent and think we've done enough. There's a lot of teams still around us within a similar number of points."
