Weso on the path to recovery

13 February 2015

Skitty backs Weso to return stronger, leaner, and quicker

Shrewsbury Town Physio Chris Skitt has praised the mental toughness of midfielder James Wesolowski after the midfielder vowed to come back stronger than ever.

The tough tackling Australian ruptured his cruciate ligament against Hartlepool on the 17th January and the prognosis for such an injury is around 9-months.

But Skitt, who worked closely with Weso when aiding his recovery from a hamstring injury only a few months ago, believes the former Oldham man has given himself the best chance for a quick return.

He said; “Weso is doing really well. The good news is he hasn’t got any cartilage damage which is a really good sign.

“He’s just coming to the end of a six-week process where he has been in a brace which has allowed other tissue around the knee to heal.

“He’s due to go into surgery in the next couple of weeks to reconstruct his ACL which will then lead to an extensive rehabilitation programme.”

And Skitt believes that the positive energy surrounding Weso will only help in injury.

“He’s been doing a lot of gym work recently and we’ve both made a promise to ourselves that we will get him back a lot stronger, leaner, and quicker and turn this negative into a positive,” he added.

“He’s in great spirits and I read a lot about mental strength and toughness and seeing injuries recently like Weso’s hamstring reaffirms that belief.

“His initial diagnosis was six weeks but he was back in just after three and I believe a big part of that was down to his positive thinking.”
