Leutwiler Happy With Clean Sheets

12 January 2015

Keeper pleased with 17 out of 33 clean sheets

Jayson Leutwiler kept his 17th clean sheet in 33 League and Cup games this season as the Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper reflected on a "positive" night at promotion rivals Luton.

The summer signing played a key role in Town's 0-0 draw at Kenilworth Road, making some fine saves in a battling display that also saw defender Nat Knight-Percival sent off in the second half.

"We played with 10 men in the last 20 minutes so if you keep a clean sheet and get a point I think it's very positive," said the summer signing from Middlesborough.

"It was a good night for me, I had a lot of saves and it helps when you have a few early ones to make. I'm very happy that I can help the lads get the result.

"I think my best save was when the ball hit Connor Goldson, it was a good reflex stop. We deserved the point and defended well. We kept the ball and didn't panic."

Leutwiler was in contention for the man-of-the-match award from SKY Sports who broadcast the game live - but in the end it was defender Connor Goldson who got the nod.

"Connor played really well again so I don't mind that he got it instead," smiled Leutwiler. "All three defenders could have got it.

"I'm very happy. Every game we go into we want to keep a clean sheet. Strikers want to score and for me as a goalkeeper, it's the same when not conceding a goal. When I don't concede, I'm very happy. I look at my stats all the time which helps me improve. That will help the club and the team. We've taken 4 points against Luton, one of the our promotion rivals this season, so that's very good.
