Mat looking to end the season on a positive
Town travel to Swindon to play their final Sky Bet League 1 game before the summer break.Town will be going into the game looking to finish the season with a win to top of a season of League 1 consolidation.
Defender Mat Sadler is looking forward to ending what’s been an up and down season on a positive.
“It’s been an up and down season for the club but we always want to finish the season on a positive”, said Mat
“We have stayed up and I’ve played in the final few games so for me I finish on a positive.
“I’ve been on the other foot where I’ve played all season but then missed the final few games and then you go into the summer deflated.
“For me I’m pleased to have finished the season playing and strongly and I’ll take those positives.”
Injury to Junior Brown in the home game against Wigan Athletic saw Mat regain his place on the left side of the Town defence. He feels he’s done well since coming back into the side and even chipped in with a goal away to Walsall.
“I came back and was ready to play, I had done a lot of work with the fitness people to make sure that I was ready for when I did get the chance to play.
“I’ve come back in and done myself justice, I wasn’t playing badly before but as is football you make a mistake and it gets remembered.
“I think I’ve cut those mistakes out recently and it’s been an enjoyable end to the season for me.
“I’ve scored at Walsall but should have scored against Peterborough just before half-time, had that gone in it could have been a different game, that frustrated me.
“Hopefully that’s proved I’ve got the legs to get up and down and I’ll try to get at the back stick when I can.”
Looking back on the season Mat will feel it’s been a slightly frustrating one after losing his place earlier on the in the season. He would have liked to play more games but will be looking build on this season and take it into the next one.
“It’s been a bit up and down and frustrating because I more than anyone will analyse my game.
“I’m frustrated as I’m a footballer who is used to playing 50 games a season and by the end of the campaign it will only be around 30.
“For me I’m 20 games shy of where I would like to be, I train everyday and haven’t missed a days training and I’m a person who wants to be out there playing.
“If I do ever lose that desire than I know it’s time to stop but that desire is greater than it’s ever been because you are always trying to prove yourself and I do love that.”
