Matt Tootle post Crewe Alexandra

Matt's thoughts after the home defeat to Crewe

Matt Tootle was dejected after Shrewsbury fell to another home defeat against struggling Crewe Alexandra. But the midfielder is confident Shrewsbury will be able to turn their poor home form around:
“It was frustrating more than anything. The mistake that lead to the goal cost us in the end. They didn’t offer much going forward. With the amount of possession and chances we had we should have got more. We talked at half time about how much luck they had. You just felt like something had to drop for us eventually but it never did. It was just one of those games and that is football.”

“In all competitions we are playing so well away from home. It is silly but we don’t come here thinking we are going to lose. We come to home games wanting to get on a good run and get the fans on our side. Hopefully they will stick with us and we can bring our away form here, on another day we would have won.”

“These type of games happen. I played a game for Crewe when we won 3-0 and we couldn’t believe we had won the game because they battered us. These days happen in all divisions and we have to take it on the chin and focus on the next match. It isn’t panic stations at all, there is so much time left and we just need to go on a good run and use this place as a fortress.”

The 24-year-old believes Shrewsbury will bounce back with a win when Blackpool visit on Saturday:
“We see Blackpool next week as the ideal game for us to get on a run. It is a good chance to get a win and put this game to bed.”

The former Crewe man was content with his own performance but was saddened his old fans gave him a negative reception:
“I enjoyed the experience. I got more of the ball today which I wanted so that was good. I want to make an impact on the game. It was good to play against Crewe, I was disappointed to be booed but fans can be like that. I will never know why they decided to boo me. It has happened now and I am at a new club and what matters is to impress the Shrewsbury fans.”

“I am getting back to form again. I was so tired after a run of games but I have come through that now with a second wind and I am feeling better every day and enjoying my football more and more.”
Tootle is impressed with the amount of offensive options Shrewsbury have at their disposal:

“We have a lot of pace and ability in attack which is good. Sullay KaiKai came on today and showed his ability. Hopefully we can use him a bit more in the future and get him whipping crosses in. Larnell Cole has to keep plugging away. He has so much talent and great feet. When he is playing in the hole he has to keep in the box as much as he can so that the ball can fall to him, he will get his goal soon as he is a quality player.”
