Micky Mellon On Man United Defeat

22 February 2016

Manager Praises United's Quality On The Night

Manager Micky Mellon admitted Manchester United's quality made all the difference as Shrewsbury Town exited the Emirates FA Cup.

Goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were enough to send the Premier League side into the quarter-finals.

And Micky was complimentary to both teams as they battled in front of 9,370 supporters at Greenhous Meadow.

"I think the quality of Manchester United was absolutely fantastic," he said.

"I couldn’t ask anymore from our players they just came up against a team who had so much quality. I want to congratulate them on the victory and wish them all the best in the tournament.

"I haven’t seen their goal on replay so I don’t want to discuss if it was offside or not. I think we have to come away from tonight and say it was a fantastic cup run and tonight the opposition were just too good.

"Our players can hold their head high after that and move onto the most important thing which is the game on Saturday.

"I would have loved to have given the crowd something to cheer but we did have a couple of chances, the free header especially, but it wasn’t to be for us."
