Micky Mellon On Survival And Peterborough Game

30 April 2016

Manager Pleased To Have Safety Secured

“I want to go on record now and thank my staff for all their support that we have needed at times because it has been tough,” said the manager.

“The chairman has been fantastic, I couldn’t have asked for better support and also the fans, not once have they ever got my back and that has been very humbling.

“Thanks to all the fans and in the end of the day, it’s been very difficult but we achieved the objective of League One football for next season.”

But, Micky has said that he would like to thank the chairman, his staff and the fans for sticking with him, and more importantly, the club.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, everybody else can get carried away, say what they want, but my mind was always about finishing above that line, that 4th bottom line,” said Mellon.

“I believe that is what we had to achieve and then, now we’ve done that.”

Mellon believed that as long as his side stayed composed, other teams would crumble around them.

“I’ll sit down with the chairman and see what the next objective is and that’s what I intend to do because as far as I’m concerned so far, I’ve done what I need to do.”

“It was important that Shrewsbury try and do that and try and grow from there, it was always going to be difficult.

“My job when I first came here was, when I sat down with my chairman was, the first season to get promoted and the second season, to stay in league one, so I’ve done that now,” said Micky.

Micky thinks that now this season is done, he will speak with the chairman to find out what the club need to aim for in the next season.

Manager Micky Mellon was pleased to secure Sky Bet League 1 survival despite the defeat to Peterborough United.
