Micky Mellon On Wycombe Loss

14 March 2015

Manager Disappointed With First Half Goal

“We’ll be impressing upon the lads that that’s what we want them to do and we need to heed the lessons from today’s game and take that into Tuesday night.

"Andy Mangan’s closer to a return on Tuesday than he was yesterday but we’ll just have to see how that one pans out.

"We’ll sort out what’s happened today and if there’s anything to talk about, then we’ll do that and move on very quickly.

"The lads who played today were all capable of making things happen for us but it wasn’t to be."
Mellon is hoping for a repeat performance in Lancashire against Morecambe:

After Town’s last defeat at home to Northampton, their response was immediate with a hard fought away win at Accrington three days later.

“I’ve never ever said anything different and that’s that we’ll look at the next game.

"I can’t tell you what’s happened before because it doesn’t matter anymore. We’ll look at Tuesday night (at Morecambe) and move on very quickly.

"Stats don’t bother me. I’m not looking at other teams and what they’re doing. We just have to keep concentrating on our own business. We’ll get the lads recovered and prepared.

"It’s still in our own hands and we have to keep it under our control.”
Micky wasn’t interested in the stat thrown his way that underlined what a sticky spell his side were in the middle of – just one win in the last five outings:

“I was disappointed with the first half and conceding so early on which put us on the back foot," said Micky.

"We came out second best in too many areas of the pitch, and although we competed a little bit more in the second half, we never really got the break that we needed.

"I didn’t see it coming to be honest because we’d spoken before the game about what to expect here – a bumpy, bobbly pitch and a committed team.

"To not take heed of the warning and let a cross come in so early for a free header after a couple of minutes was massively disappointing.

"Even more disappointing was that we never found the fire within us to start competing which is unlike us.

"We should have used it as a springboard to win those knock downs and win those headers.

"We had a chat about it at half-time and competed a little bit more with the substitutes we put on giving us a bit of impetus.

"There were a lot of lads in the second half who rose to the challenge but we weren’t just good enough in the end to get that equaliser.”

His Shrewsbury Town team got off to the worst possible start and Sam Wood’s header inside a minute was enough to land all three points for Wycombe at Adams Park.

Micky Mellon was disappointed to have lost a game against a promotion rival this afternoon.
