Gaffer's thoughts after the 3 points at Bloomfield Road
Micky Mellon was proud of his team’s performance after they travelled to Blackpool and came away with a 3-2 victory.
Blackpool had one of the best recent home forms but goals from Knight-Percival, Whalley and Mangan gave Town the points.
After the game the Town manager was asked for this thoughts on the game;”It is a great result and a terrific performance. To take four points out of two games is very pleasing and we are happy with how we are playing at the minute. We could have got another one or two today but it was a bit concerning when we conceded a sloppy goal before half time. It gave Blackpool belief and they went direct in the first half and it became a bit of a battle. We put an extra midfielder in to try and make sure we won the knock downs and tried to get some control. We did well at slowing the game down in the second half and we dealt with what Blackpool threw at us. We showed our quality today and that is great.
“It was massive to win today because Blackpool could have gone six points clear of us. We haven’t got a game for two weeks in the league now so it was important we came here and got a result. There is no single game that is bigger than any other but we are delighted to have got the three points.
“We had a great start. We bossed the game in the first half an hour. Blackpool have a good defensive record so to come here and score three is brilliant. “
In recent weeks Andy Mangan and Shaun Whalley have added pace to the Town attack and more importantly goals;”They have brought pace to our game. We knew we needed to do something different in January because we were not denting defences and troubling as we should. As you saw today pace can do a lot of damage to teams and it troubled Blackpool. John Louis Akpa Akpro did everything but score today too. I thought he worked very hard and when he plays like he did today he is a real handful.”
There was one change from the side that gained a point away to Fleetwood with Zak Whitbread coming in for Dom Smith. The Gaffer is the one who makes the changes and the one who is judges by those decisions;”Whatever people say about me I will always rotate my squad because that is how I manage. I believe in all the lads and when I believe the time is right to play someone I will and today I got the team right.”
With an important 3 points added to the league tally Town can now look ahead to the next game, Manchester United at home. The giants of football visit the Greenhous Meadow in the Emirates FA Cup and it is a game that Micky is looking forward to;”It is exciting that I will now be preparing my team to play against Manchester United. It will be a fantastic moment for me and the whole club. I am looking forward to it and we will have a solid week ahead to prepare. I can’t wait to see the stadium full again and hear the people of Shropshire roar. I will have a word with Big Sam to see if he has any advice for us and we are going to enjoy the build-up and give it our all when the match comes. “
