Gaffer looking to end the season with a win

Manager Micky Mellon is looking to end the season with a final win after securing their spot in League One for another season.

The Shrews are taking on Swindon Town in the last Sky Bet Football League 1 game of the season at the County Ground. (Kick-off 3pm)

And even though Micky believes the seasons objective has been achieved, the first thing on his mind is a win to finish the season of with a high.

“We will look at everything we need to do in order to and get a result because it is important to try and win games of football,” said Micky.

“In terms of where we want to take the football club, what we want to do, and what we’ve wanted to do all season, we want to win.

“If that’s pressure, then it’s on because we went to play to well and we want to win.”

Also, Micky insists that his players still have to work for their spot in the final game of the season as he won’t be handing out any favours to players he believes won’t affect the game.

“We’ll play a team that we think is deserving of trying to go down there at get us the result we want,” said Micky.

“I’ll go with a team that they always say, we’ll try and win the game.

“I’m not doing a favour to some people just because they are young, all the lads want to play, so we will pick a team accordingly.”

When asked about what he thought about being safe with one game to go, he replied with an outlook to the start of next season.

“I have mixed emotions really. Its mission accomplished in terms of what we want to do but of course, we always want to do things better,” said Micky.

“It’s been a really tough season to manage, so much has gone on it seems like everyday something different has happened here, it’s been one of those seasons for sure.

“It’s definitely been the most challenging in my career but we have managed our way through it with the staff, the players have fought their way through as a group and we have done what we set out to do at the start of the season.”
