Disappointed with Burton result but looking forward to Oldham
Abu Ogogo was dejected after Shrewsbury were defeated late on against Burton Albion, making it five league games without a win:“I feel very frustrated after the game. I felt we dominated the match without making too many clear cut chances, but we hit the post and the bar and to concede so late on was a real kick in the teeth.”
The midfielder feels the squad can have no excuses for their poor form but feels their fortunes will change very soon:
“I don’t think we can use tiredness as an excuse because everyone in the league has played the same amount of games. We tried to have a patient build up but I think at times we should have moved the ball about with a bit more urgency than we did. It is still early days though and I am sure we will gel real soon.”
“I think we had bad luck today. On another day we would have gone in two nil up at half time and would have won the game by three or four. We needed to get the goal but unfortunately today we couldn’t get it. The lads know we are so close to everything clicking now. This bad luck will leave us and we will kick on. Hopefully that will start with Tuesday.”
The 25-year-old believes the referee compounded Shrewsbury’s troubles with some dubious decisions but Ogogo is confident the results will come:
“I think the referee did give a few decisions against us today which is just another bit of bad luck we are getting but we have to keep going as that will change.”
“I was told that their goal today was their first shot on target which just shows how dominant we were out there. It was a poor goal to concede and the lads are down at the moment but we will put it behind us quickly before the game on Tuesday. I think the performances are improving week on week. We just need a little bit of luck and get the first goal to start winning games.”
The former Arsenal man is enjoying the formation Shrewsbury adopt and is hoping to repay Shrewsbury’s loyal support with a win on Tuesday night and a cup run in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy:
“3-5-2 is our preferred formation. It suits us well and gives us lots of options on the ball but whatever formation the gaffer chooses the boys will go out there and do their best.”
“Our fans have been great, getting behind us even though we have failed to win in the league thus far so it would be really nice to pay them back with a home win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.”
“The real motivation in this cup is the chance to play at Wembley. I am lucky as I have played there once before but so many lads go through the whole of their careers and don’t get the chance. I know how fantastic it is to run out at Wembley and I would love to do it again.”
Despite Town currently occupying one of the relegation places in Sky Bet League One, Ogogo is content with the squad and isn’t hoping for an addition to the team before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday:
“I’m happy with what the team has at the moment, I feel we have a lot of options. But if the manager decides to bring someone in all the players would welcome them into the squad.”
