Midfielder Wants Nothing Less Than Three Points
"I wouldn’t have done as well as I have if it wasn’t for the lads in that dressing room and the manager showing faith in me as well as all the staff who have looked after me since I’ve been here," said Grant.
"I owe them all a lot. I’ve been very happy and enjoyed my football this season and long may that continue.
But in spite of his own accomplishments this season, the 24-year-old scouser is quick to pay tribute to the ones who have made it possible.
"Every game you want to do well as a team and get the result but it’s always nice to get on the scoresheet," he said.
"There are not many feelings that are as good as that and if I could do that on Saturday and help the club get over the finish line then that would be great."
Grant has popped up with some crucial goals this term and would love to add to his tally this weekend.
"We know there are games in the past that we should have won and if we had then we would have been out of sight but that hasn’t happened and all we can do now is try and get maximum points from the next two games and hope other teams do us a favour against Burton.
"We’re waiting for Burton to slip up but we also can’t afford to slip up at the same time. We have to concentrate on what we do. The manager has drilled that into us since the start of the week and if we take care of the next couple of games starting with Cheltenham on Saturday, then hopefully Burton will slip up and we can capitalise."
The on-loan Blackpool man has proved a crucial acquisition in Micky Mellon’s side this season and claims the main reason for his arrival in Shropshire was down to the lofty ambitions of everyone at the club.
"I’ve never been promoted in my career so this is a very exciting time for me and that’s the reason why I came here. It was a club that was very ambitious and I knew they had the ability to challenge at the top end of the table.
"For me to come here and be successful and to be part of a team and a club where everyone works for each other and wants to go in the right direction is massive and it will be a big achievement in my career to get a promotion."
"As long as we take care of what we have to do then that’s all we can do," admits Grant.
Despite the Town’s recent good form, culminating in one defeat in six, Grant concedes that the title may be out of their hands, but that as long as they are within reach, they must be there to take advantage if league leaders Burton Burton slip up.
"There are no easy games at this stage of the season because there’s Football League status and promotion at stake and both teams have something to play for," said Grant.
"For us to go there and win will take us up and if they win it's massive for their survival hopes, but we’re confident in the ability we have in the dressing room to go there and do it.
"We’ll be going there (to Cheltenham) to win. We want the three points and we want to win the last two games and hopefully that will be enough for us to get the trophy at the end but there’s still a lot of work to be done and the lads are really looking forward to the game on Saturday."
But Grant knows that should his side harbour title ambitions, and nothing less than a win will do.
The Shrews go into the Sky Bet League 2 clash at the Abbey Business Stadium this weekend (3pm kick-off) knowing victory will guarantee automatic promotion whereas their hosts are desperate for points for the opposite reason – to preserve their Football League status.
