FULL-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 3-1 Burnley
Dawes' side will travel to Carlisle United on Tuesday afternoon (2pm kick-off) looking to make it three wins from three in the league.
Substitute Jordan Wilson, in his first game back from injury, stepped up to cooly slide the ball into the bottom right corner, sending the Clarets 'keeper the wrong way, to help the Shrews to all three points.
However, the game was sealed when Jones was tripped just inside the box on the left by Burnley defender Shaun Hobson.
McAtee could have finished the game off at the other end with six minutes left but fired over after Jones pulled the ball back to him.
The game began to open up as it approached the climax and Lewis was again called into action, making himself big to block Andreas Bianga's attempt from close range.
At the other end, Shrewsbury captain Callum Grogan had the chance to restore his side's two-goal lead just after the hour mark but headed over from Jacob Rammell's corner on the right.
Town goalkeeper Lewis was called into action for a second time within five minutes of the start of the second period as he got down to tip Dolling's effort from long range around his right post.

But the margin was only one goal going into the break.
Town could have been going into the break two ahead had it not been for the offside flag a minute before time, as McAtee's low shot from the edge of the box, which came back off the left post, was followed up and tapped into the empty net by Hassall.
Although Burnley did halve the deficit in the 39th minute as Dolling fired a shot into the corner past Lewis.
At the other end, Shrews stopper Harry Lewis was called into action for the first time with 38 minutes gone as he had to stand up tall to block Miles Fenton's shot from the edge of the box.
Winger Joe Kenton, who got on the scoresheet for Town in the win at Morecambe, tried his luck from long range after cutting in onto his left foot from the right, but his effort just missed the far post.
Jones also looked to sneak a low effort in at the near post but it was tipped into the side netting by the outstretched foot of King.
There were then two chances for Shrewsbury to add a third moments later as Hassall saw a low shot held and Jones then drove one just over the crossbar.
Dawes' side then doubled their lead four minutes later as a mistake from the Clarets' defence presented the ball to McAtee on the edge of the box and the striker was able to chip the ball over goalkeeper Connor King who was off his line.
Fellow striker George Hassall robbed Burnley defender Lewis Norvock on the inside right and, after his first crossed was blocked, pulled the ball for Jones to tuck away a low finish at the near post.
However, the second-year scholar soon broke the deadlock for his fourth of the season with eight minutes on the clock.
Town went straight on the attack and Jones, who bagged a hat-trick at Morecambe a week before, went close to opening the scoring in just the second minute as he cut onto his left foot on the edge of the box before seeing his strike whistle over.
FIRST HALF
Chris Gallagher and Mathew Jones still await international clearance to be involved.
Nathan Millis replaced Tom King at left wingback, while there was a place on the bench for striker Jordan Wilson as he returned from injury.
Head of Academy coaching Ian Dawes made one change to the side which beat the Shrimps a week before.

The visitors did pull a goal back through captain Josh Dolling, but Town's under-18s were able to build on their 4-1 win at Morecambe a week before and maintain a perfect start to the Football League Youth Alliance - North West league season.
Goals from Ethan Jones, John McAtee and Jordan Wilson gave the young Shrews all three points against the Clarets at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
