Hassall And Ethan Jones On Target For U18s

However, Dawes' side drew level a minute before the break when Hassall found space in the penalty area on the left and shot underneath Wusiewicz.

Ethan Jones then chested, turned and volleyed superbly from the edge of the box and his dipping attempt was whiskers past the far corner.

Shrewsbury still created chances of their own. Chris Gallagher saw a speculative half volley from 25 yards fly wide.

However, Burnley should have doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark when Ouatunde Bayode pounced on a misplaced pass, bore down on the Town goal, and cut inside onto his left foot in the penalty before shooting low and just wide of the right post.

At the other end, Town's first chance fell for Ethan Jones who hit a powerful shot to the bottom left corner from 20 yards out and Clarets goalkeeper Marcel Wusiewicz saved one-handed.

Shrimpton then hooked an effort wide of the right post for Burnley four minutes later.

The Clarets did take the lead a minute later, though, as they pounced on a mistake, Chakwana found space to shoot in the penalty area on the left and his low effort across goal deflected in.

Burnley got the game underway in blustery conditions and could have taken the lead in the 12th minute when Tyler Shrimpton teed up Andy Nugent who hit a spinning, low strike first time from around 30 yards out and it just missed the right post.

FIRST HALF

Callum Grogan, Mathew Jones and Aaron Gilpin came back into the side with Joel Bonner, Ryan Barnett and Tom King missing out.

Head of Academy coaching Ian Dawes made three changes to the side which won at Blackpool a week before.

FULL-TIME: Burnley 1-2 Shrewsbury Town

Town were able to see out the game to pick up their third win in four.

Ethan Jones made surging runs and, a minute into added time, he beat a defender but saw a shot to the far corner superbly saved.

Both teams battled well with the conditions but it was Town who looked the more likely to get another goal.

The Shrews went in search of a third but they had goalkeeper Charlie Bannister thank for keeping them in front when saved superbly from Chakwana's effort when the striker broke through one-on-one.

Ethan Jones was picked out on the left wing - he beat his man and drove towards the byline before cooly converting past Wusiewicz at his near post.

Town got the second period underway and took the lead in the 50th minute.
