Rail Safety Programme Celebration At Shrewsbury Town

20 February 2015

CST And Network Rail Celebrate The Programme

The guests also got to see children from the session in action on the Shrewsbury Powerleague site at the Greenhous Meadow.

"I'm absolutely thrilled at the amount of enthusiasm and effort that the football club and community trust are putting in to such an important issue as safety and rail safety, particularly with youngsters.

"I'm very pleased that the footballers I have met at Shrewsbury Town are very passionate about getting out into the community and spreading this message to young Salopians.
One of the guests, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski, was impressed with the Community Sports Trust's work and said:

January-May will see three new sessions delivered by the Community Sports Trust around Shropshire.

October-December 2014 saw five sessions delivered for a total of ten hours with 93 young people aged 6-16 engaging in the programmes.

The programme is a development of the Community Sports Trust's Rail Life programme which has successfully worked within schools and community groups to deliver safety messages in fun and engaging ways.

The Community Sports Trust were tasked by Network Rail and the Football League Trust to help reduce the number of young people injured or killed after trespassing on the railway by organising a series of sports and educational activities to divert children away from the dangers of playing on the tracks.

Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust celebrated the rail safety programme in partnership with Network Rail and the Football League Trust on Thursday afternoon.
