Connor Goldson Pre-Burton Albion

1 January 2015

Defender believes away form is improving

  • Goldson feels Town are getting better on the road
  • Defender believes Burton will be tough to break down
  • He says Shrews are the team to beat
Defender Connor Goldson believes Shrewsbury Town's away form is improving but insists his side are in for another tough test at Burton Albion on Saturday.

"We know they're two away games and two tough games.

"Once they're out the way we move on and then we've got two home games against Hartlepool and Stevenage to look forward to.

"When you're top of the league, everyone wants to beat you so they raise their game an extra five per cent."

said Goldson."We don't want to drop points against either (Burton or Luton),"

And with Luton sitting fourth in the table, just two points behind the Shrews at present, Goldson hopes his side can come away with enough points from the two games before two home games against Hartlepool United and Stevenage follow.

Town will follow up their game against Burton with another trip on the road to Luton Town, live on Sky Sports, on Thursday 8 January.
"They all seem to know their jobs in the team and it's hard to break them down.

"They do like to pass the ball as well.

"I think Wycombe were a bit more direct whereas Burton do like to pass the ball.

"It will be a tough game when we go there, but we know what they're about.

"We believe in ourselves that, who we play or wherever we play, we're good enough to go and get three points."

said Goldson."They're strong, competitive and well organised,"

However, Goldson believes it could be a different type of game to Sunday's goalless draw with Wycombe Wanderers and admits Hasselbaink's side are hard to break down.

Town beat Burton 1-0 at the Greenhous Meadow in November, thanks to striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's late goal, which means they will be looking to complete a league double over the Brewers.

"We'll look forward to them and hopefully we can go to both of them and carry on our recent good away form.

"We've had a feel now of what this league is all about.

"I think it hit us a few times right at the start of the season, the likes of Stevenage and Hartlepool, so we have to be on the money.

"We can't just turn up to places and think that we're going to steamroller them because it doesn't happen.

"We've got that mentality away from home now where we have to be at it from the first minute.

"We conceded a lot of early goals at the start of the season away from home so we know it will work both ways.

"Our mentality is a lot stronger now as a team."

said Goldson."We've got two great games coming up - Burton and Luton both away and they're both around us,"

And while Goldson is pleased with Town's turn in fortune on their travels, he feels Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Brewers, who sit third in the table, will provide stiff opposition on Saturday.

Micky Mellon's side struggled on the road at the start of the season but the Shrews have picked up four points from their last two away games.

Town travel to the Pirelli Stadium at the weekend (3pm kick-off) looking to hang on to top spot in the Sky Bet League 2 table.
