Lidl Store Proposals

Public Feedback Required For Food Store Proposals

Lidl is holding a public exhibition to ask the community for feedback on proposals for a new food store on land adjacent to Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Oteley Road.

The proposals are for the land next to the Powerleague pitches.

The exhibition will be held in the Arthur Rowley Lounge at the Football Club on Friday 27 November 2015 between 3pm and 7pm. Members of the development team will be on hand to speak to the community and answer any questions.

Ed Whalley, Senior Acquisitions Consultant at Lidl, said: “The new store will give shoppers more choice locally, providing a high-quality offer at low prices. Up to 40 new jobs could also be created.”

“We are keen to know what the local community thinks of the plans and I would encourage people to attend our public exhibition and provide feedback.”

The firm intends to submit a planning application for a 15,000 sq ft net sales store in the coming weeks. If planning permission is granted for the new store, between 25 and 40 jobs could be created for the local area. Lidl is the first major supermarket to pay all its staff a Living Wage.

The site is currently owned by Shrewsbury Town Football Club. As well as creating local jobs, Lidl’s investment will also help to secure the long-term future of the football club.
